Bridgeport is the fifth largest city in New England, Connecticut. A seemingly small and beautiful town is full of attractions to choose from. Bridgeport is a part of Fairfield County, only a short trip from NewYork City making it a perfect side stop.
The houses in Bridgeport are a mix of traditional and modern. Some of the buildings have been kept intact while some house owners have chosen to renovate their properties with modern remodeled kitchens, paint jobs and some renovations in the overall structure. Like Bethel, Bridgeport is a modern town that offers a variety of activities for young couples, travelers and the only zoo in the state makes a very attractive spot for people from all around.

Planetarium and Discovery Museum – The educational facility at the planetarium and the Discovery Museum is both entertaining and educational with hands-on promotion. It’s one of the top activities within the town. Don’t forget to book your passes in advance. The galleries change their collection and the Planetarium shows throughout the year.
Watch a Game – No matter what time of the year you arrive the Webster Bank Arena is a Sports- lover paradise. Not only is it home to the AHL Sound Tigers hockey team but also the NCAA basketball teams for Fairfield University both men and women. There are different concerts,WWE events and literally 100 other entertaining things going on year around. Clearly this is more in the area to keep you occupied than kitchen remodeling projects!
Adventure Park – Check out The Adventure Park if you find great weather and don’t want to be stuck in a museum all day long. It’s a great picnic spot to visit with your family and give yourself a vacation from the kitchen. You will enjoy an amazing array of ziplines, trails, bridges and more. There are 11 trails with different levels of difficulty in case you get a little scared, 21 ziplines and 161 bridges making it the largest forest park in all of New England.
Hop on the Shopping Train – Unlike Brookfield’s urban-ish vibes, Bridgeport has a modern touch to it. The proof of which is the places of entertainment here. Harborview Market, Part of the Black Rock neighbourhood has been around since the 1800s, when it only sold Swedish merchandise. After restoration this totally hip spot is perfect for all your bakery, lunch, breakfast and coffee with friends and live music needs. This market has been named the best places to dine alone for solo travelers.
Meet your Mammals – Beardsley Zoo is the only zoo in all of Connecticut. All five sections — Predators, South American Rainforest, Alligator Alley, New England Farmyard and Hoofstock brings a unique experience for its viewers. From leopards, lions and tigers and birds of great variety as well. A sure favorite for the kids and animal lovers.
The Cove – Great tourist and boating destinations made this empty lot a summer fun spot for families and travelers. The marina filled with boats, the restaurant and bar on the dry lands with premium seating on the waterfront helps you relax and enjoy the sensual aromas gives a very soothing weekend. Oh and not to forget the Fishing Charter. This place is an all in one vacation spot if you feel like going out and having a break from your Grandma’s kitchen meals.
Visit a Tiny Lighthouse – Referred to as The Bug, standing at only 30 feet tall, tongue Point is where you will find this beautiful black lighthouse. It was built in the 1800s and has been helping keep the vessels away from the rocky mass. Its importance doesn’t end there, in 1897 a new invention to take advantage of the earliest electricity days were also tested there.
Watch a Show – The Sacred Heart University Cabaret offers a variety of interesting shows in its derived “DownTown Cabaret Theatre”. The local favorite shows include The Hunchback of Notre Dame, A raisin in the Sun, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Jesus Christ Superstar . They have a great line up for kids shows including the retelling of our favourite fairy tales from childhood as well
