This town has a long and rich history. Early settlers from Europe settled here in the 1600’s and colonized this place. Some people also settled from nearby areas like long Island, Milford due to political disputes. The first settlements took place on a land that was easy to clear and was located alongside the river. North Branford is located at the south and southeastern banks of Lake Gaillard, which provides town with a scenic landscape and beauty, unmatched in other American town. It is located a few miles away from the east American coastline. According to recent estimates, its population is roughly 15,000 individuals. The total area of town is estimated at around 26 square miles. Neighboring sister cities are Wallingford, Durham, Guilford, and Branford.
Major portion of the town is covered by Totoket Mountain, which is 720 feet high and is part of the Metacomet ridge while Long Island is located in the southerly direction. The climate of this town can be termed as humid continental. Winter temperatures usually remain below freezing in winter during January and February and snow is common in these months. From June to early September, summer as conditions prevail. Town also receives a considerable amount of precipitation in summers between April and October.
North Branford is strategically located in the suburbs of New Haven County, with excellent rail and rail connectivity. One can easily access the town and even countryside by an elaborate network of roads and can easily visit the urban downtown of North Haven, which has rich history and culture.

Currently, the lake is providing fresh water to around 500,000 homes of regional water authority. Town also has a golf course named as twin lake golf course.
Other tourist attractions include; Miller Barn Museum, Rose Orchard Farm, Rose Vineyards and winery and Connecticut sports complex.
