How To Deal With Clogged Toilet with Poop

Unclogging toilet with poop

Jump to Section

We’ve all had to deal with that stubborn poop that refuses to go down the drain while flushing. Sometimes the poop might be too big, or you might be dealing with a clog in the pipe. While the situation can be somehow embarrassing, especially when many people share the bathroom, sometimes the stuck poop may not be your fault.

There are reasons why the poop might get stuck, and one of the most common of all is the clogged toilet. So, how do you deal with a blocked toilet filled with poop? Here are several ways to unclog your toilet.

Use a Toilet Brush

The first thing you should think of using when your toilet gets clogged with poop is a toilet brush. Many toilets have that brush just next to the toilet, which they usually use to clean poop stains. If you’re in a guest’s bathroom, you don’t have to get out of the toilet to ask for the brush, which can be embarrassing.

A toilet brush can help you unplug the toilet and get the big poop to go down. But this only works for simple clogs.

To unclog the toilet, press the toilet brush in the remaining content of the poor to force it down the drain. Make sure you’re careful while doing this, so you don’t spill the poop in the toilet seat or end up splashing the poop water all over your body. You can then flush, and if you’re lucky, the entire content will go down.

However, if this doesn’t work and the poop remains, the problem might not be your poop but the dirty pipes. At this point, you might consider asking the host about the problem, and they may help you with a better solution, which many times involve using a plunger.

Use a Toilet Plunger

The second option of unclogging a clogged toilet filled with poop is using a plunger. Unlike using a toilet brush, the plunger provides one of the easiest and mess-free ways of unclogging the toilet.

If you choose to go the plunger way, choose a rubber toilet plunger that’s wide enough to create a good vacuum in the toilet aperture. You can never go wrong with a heavy-duty plunger. Small suction cup plungers don’t work well in such cases, so you should avoid them.

Consider running the plunger in warm water to make it soft and enable it to create a seal. Protect your toilet floors from any possible mess by using towels or newspapers. Have your garbage bag nearby in case you want to use it. If you’re dealing with a serious toilet clog, it’s good that you protect yourself from the germs by making sure you wear rubber gloves.

Here’s how to use a plunger to unclog a toilet clogged with poop.

  • First, force the air out of the plunger to make it gentle, then use it to plunge vigorously·
  • While plunging, maintain the seal so you can forcefully push water into the drain and loosen the clog. Push and pull the plunger repeatedly for about 20 times until you’re convinced that you’ve achieved the best results.
  • While plunging, switch between gentle and vigorous plunges until you achieve the desired results.  Ensure the toilet bowl has enough water to cover the plunger. Without water, the plunger won’t generate enough pressure to push down the poop.
  • Carry out several toilet flushes to see if the clog is gown. You can also pour a bucket of water in the toilet.
  • If you notice that the water still drains slowly, fill the toilet bowl with water and plunge again. You might have to repeat this several times before you see the results. Be patient, as this method can take time to give results.

Use a Metal Cloth Hanger

A metal cloth hanger with a coated plastic works well to remove poop stuck in your toilet. The hanger works well in place of a plunger in case you don’t have one. The hanger wire is flexible and firm enough to carry out the work perfectly.

To avoid getting your hands dirty and getting contaminated, make sure you use waterproof gloves. Use pliers to unwrap the hanger and create a medium-size hook. Put one end of the hanger into the toilet and push it hard if you feel an obstruction.

Remove the hanger if you feel like the blockage is gone. Once you manage to unblock the toilet, flush until the toilet bowl cleans up. You can also unclog your bathtub drain using this same exact method. The metal hanger will pull out any hair or waste stuck in bathtub drain.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are perfect household ingredients that can help you remove poop clogged in your toilet. You need to add a cup of vinegar to the toilet gradually until it causes a chemical reaction. The vinegar will foam, and you should be careful as it can also splash. Continue adding vinegar until you stop seeing the bubbles.

Once there are no more bubbles, you’ll now flush your toilet. If you feel like the bowl is over clogged, you should add more vinegar and hot water. Repeat a few times until the clog is gone. You can also unclog your kitchen sink using this same method. It is completely safe and very easy to do.

Another option may involve boiling water in a large pot then allow it to cool for a while. Don’t use the water while it’s still too hot, as this will interfere with the effect of baking soda. Once the water is cool enough, add one cup of baking soda into the water and follow with one cup of vinegar. Pour the mixture of baking soda and vinegar into your toilet bowl and let it sit overnight. Then, flush the toilet and see the difference.

Toilet Auger

You can also use a medium-sized cable to snake through your toilet drain easily. The toilet auger works perfectly to break the clog into smaller pieces and hook on the clog. This is one of the easiest methods of unclogging a toilet clogged with poop and toilet paper.

The toilet auger comes specially designed with a rotating table cover with soft rubber. This ensures you don’t damage the porcelain. It’s a perfect tool for unclogging tough clogs from your toilet.

Baking Soda and Plastic Foil

Another great product for unclogging your toilet is using baking soda and plastic foil. You need to pour warm water into the toilet bowl and add baking soda. Ensure the water is not too hot as this will interfere with the effect of the baking soda.

After adding baking soda and the warm water into the bowl, cover the toilet seat with plastic foil. Allow it to sit for an hour or overnight. Flush the toilet and see the results.

Coca Cola and Plastic Foil

If coca cola is your favorite beverage, you must know that you can also use it to unclog the toilet. And coca cola isn’t expensive, so don’t worry about wasting your favorite drink. Besides, you only need a 0.5-liter bottle of coca cola to fix the problem. Pour the drink into your toilet bowl and cover immediately using plastic foil.

Allow the liquid to rest in the toilet for about one hour. Coca cola and plastic foil will pressurize and allow the poop to go down. Flush the toilet and see the amazing results.

Detergent and Boiling Hot Water

Before you start using this method, be very careful with hot water to avoid getting burnt. Boil water in a large pot and let it cool for a few minutes before pouring it into the toilet sink. This will ensure the toilet sink isn’t exposed to extreme temperatures.

Carefully pour boiling water into the toilet and let it generate enough pressure to push the clogged poop. Add about 2-3 spoons of dishwashing detergent and let it rest for 20 minutes. If you notice a reduction in water pressure, it means the mixture has worked.

You can pour in more hot water to completely dissolve the poop. The technique might not work for the first time for tough clogs. You can repeat it severally until you achieve the desired results.

You might also need to add more detergent to dissolve any stubborn feces remaining in the toilet. The detergent acts as a lubricant that can soften the feces. Once it softens, wait for 20 minutes before flushing with cold water.

Dish Soap

Dish soap is another readily available home ingredient that you can use comfortably in a clogged toilet filled with poop. If you don’t have all the above products, you probably won’t luck dish soap. Get the dish soap from the kitchen and pour it slowly on your toilet. The slippery nature of the dish soap will enable it to lubricate the poop and allow it to drain easily.

For this method to become more effective, you can use dish soap together with boiling hot water. Pour the boiled water in the toilet until all the cold water in the toilet is replaced with hot water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before flushing.

Repeat until the entire clog is gone. You can use as much dish soap as your kitchen can stand. You can also add more hot boiling water as long as you’re not satisfied.

Saran Wrap

Saran wrap is another technique used to unclog a toilet blocked with poop. The method involves covering the toilet opening with two layers of plastic wrap before flushing. The plastic wrap will balloon due to pressure, and you should slowly push it down on it. The flushing will create suction, making it easy for the clog to go down the toilet drain.

Household Bleach

You can do a lot with household bleach, including unclogging the toilet filled with pooh and toilet paper. Bleach works better than many products and is essential in case the toilet clogs is so severely.

All you have to do is pour about two cups of household bleach into the bowl. Wait for it to dissolve the poop, then flush. You can repeat a few times until the entire toilet clog is gone.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is an effective chemical not only for unclogging the toilet but also for killing germs. To use skybird hydrogen peroxide, ensure you first remove as much water as you can from the toilet so it doesn’t overflow when you flush.

Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of vinegar and let it sit for an hour. Flush the toilet and remove the water again.

Pour a 1/4 cup of hydrogen into the toilet and allow the solution to sit for an hour.  Flush the toilet and see if the water drains at its normal speed. If this doesn’t unclog your toilet completely, repeat the procedure.

Commercial Chemicals

Another reliable option for a clogged bowl is the use of commercial chemicals. A chemical reaction is strong enough to break down the poop clogged in the toilet and unclog. The right chemicals also work well to unblock even hard clogs. There are many ready-to-use chemicals that you can buy for this purpose.

While some people may dupe you into using chemicals that don’t unclog the toilet, you can carry out your due diligence and only go for chemicals that work perfectly. Pour the chemical, then wait for about 5-15 minutes for the reaction to take place. After that, you can flush your toilet and observe the change.

Don’t get too used to using chemicals to unclog a toilet because it’s a high-risk method. Besides, some chemicals are too strong that they may end up damaging your pipes. In fact, it should be the last resort after you’ve tried other methods and this is the only way remaining.

Conclusion

There are many other methods to unclog a toilet with poop stuck that we might not have mentioned here. What’s for sure is all the above methods work for different kinds of clogs, and you’ll only try one or two methods and see the result.

However, if you don’t achieve the desired results after several attempts, you might be dealing with a serious clog issue that only a plumber can fix. Don’t hesitate to call one if that happens to be the case.

You can also reduce the chances of blocking your toilet with poop by taking care of yourself. Ensure you drink plenty of water to soften your poop. This is a perfect way to reduce bloating in your stomach as well as keep your toilet drainage running as it should.
