About Life in Franklin Lakes
Franklin Lake is a township in Bergen County. This came into being on 11th March 1922 by the act of New Jersey Legislature. At the time of writing this in 2020, the total population is 10,590. The township is named after William Franklin. Franklin Lake is currently under the Mayorship of Frank Bi Vona; he is expected to complete his office on December 31, 2022. And in terms of big companies in the area, Becton Dickinson’s headquarters are also situated in Franklin Lakes. The multinational pharmaceutical company, medico health solutions was based here until the express script acquired it in 2012.
The local government is selected on the bases of democracy. It comprises a Mayor and a Borough Council. The Mayor is elected by the voters and has the position for four years. The Borough council is a six member’s council and they serve for 3 years. It is said that Franklin Lakes has a strong council and a weak mayor. The township has a police department which is headed by the Chief Caramine. And because it’s good to know at 745 Franklin Avenue there is an office of emergency management.
The education system is from pre KG to 8th grade that is attended by the students at Franklin Lakes public school. The total enrollments in 2018 and 2019 were 1,121 students. Other schools in districts such as high mountain road school have an average of 218 students from pre KG to grade 5, the woodside avenue school, Franklin Avenue middle school and colonial road school. The public high schools for students of Franklin Lake include Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High school. The students coming from Oakland, Edgewater, Wyockoff and Glen Rock are also attending the same high school.
Many famous people were also born and were residents of Franklin Lakes such as the famous football player Blake Costanzo, basketball coach John Calipari, and the author of the famous book “Just Add Magic” Cindy Callaghan. Several reality shows have been conducted here such as Bravo network series, the real housewives of New Jersey, and My Big Fat Fabulous wedding.
The township has many historical places such as Degray house, which was built in 1785, based on 2.7 acres. The Ackerman- Boyd house which was constructed in 785 and is based on 3.5 acres. The Packer House which is located on 600 Ewing Avenue is based on 4.1 acres land. There is a water station at the corner of Pulis avenue.
The weather in Franklin Lakes is quite pleasant, usually it’s sunny. Tourists enjoy spending time near the lake. The Franklin Lake nature preserve is open for everyone from down to duct with the serious rules and policies that include littering is prohibited, fishing is allowed to those who have a license of New Jersey, swimming, fires, grilling and wading is also prohibited.
The housing colonies are well maintained and are cleaned on weakly bases. Franklin lakes in known for its well-maintained colonies, open kitchen looking over huge lawns, clean architecture and clean streets.
Overall Franklin Lakes has a friendly environment people gather around from different localities to celebrate different international and national occasions where families meet, dance and enjoy food together.
